Possible Template Error affecting FPC status
[edit]I think FPCBot adds {{FPC-results-unreviewed}} instead of {{FPC-results-reviewed}}, which causes the featured picture status to show 'Unconfirmed results'. -- Moheen (keep talking) 14:35, 12 July 2025 (UTC)
- Hello Moheen, thank you very much for your message! AFAICS this is not an error, but this is how the bot should work and has worked since August 2009. When the voting period of a FPC nomination is over (or when the conditions of the “rules of the 5th day” are met; see rules), the bot counts the votes and adds the {{FPC-results-unreviewed}} template. This is indeed an “unconfirmed result”. Then a human editor checks the votes and the result, correcting any errors the bot may have made (errors can happen e.g. if voters have not marked their votes properly). Then the editor deletes the “un” from the name of the template to convert it to {{FPC-results-reviewed}} and replaces the bot’s signature by the editor’s own one. Now the nomination is closed properly. In its next run the bot will again check the nomination, see that is has been reviewed and closed, and handles the so-called parking procedure, i.e. either just removes the nomination from the list (if it was not successful) or also adds the new FP to the matching gallery page, adds the {{Assessments}} template to the file description page, etc. (if the nomination was successful).
- This means, closing a nomination is not a single step, but happens in three stages:
- the bot adds an unconfirmed result using {{FPC-results-unreviewed}};
- a human editor reviews, corrects and approves the result with {{FPC-results-reviewed}};
- the bot carries out the parking procedure.
- Hope this helps. If you see a concrete problem with a certain nomination, please add a link to that nomination and/or to the edit(s) of the bot which seem questionable to you, this helps us to avoid any misunderstandings. All the best, – Aristeas (talk) 13:40, 15 July 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you, @Aristeas, for the clear and helpful explanation! That makes perfect sense now. I misunderstood the process and appreciate you taking the time to clarify. All the best. -- Moheen (keep talking) 14:38, 15 July 2025 (UTC)
